Oscilloscope Safety
Recently an oscilloscope at a NEXRAD site caught fire. Prior to catching fire, the oscilloscope had been used in normal operations for calibrating the transmitter. No problems were noted during this effort. Afterwards, the oscilloscope was left plugged in and powered off. Site technicians smelled smoke and then saw flames. For safety reasons, it is recommended that sites leave the oscilloscope unplugged when not in use and examine it before use.
