Important Build 4.0 Information

Problem located in Build 4 Max 1-hour Precipitation Alert

Problem: After Build 4 began shipping last month, a problem was discovered in the Max 1-hour Precipitation Alert. With Build 4, the threshold for this alert changed by a factor of 10. Before Build 4, a threshold value of 30, for example, was used to alert of 1-hour precipitation of more than 3.0 inches. Now this same threshold value alerts for more than 0.30 inches.

The individual Precipitation products are unaffected by this problem and the Max precipitation accumulation that displays on these products are correct.

Solution: This problem has been corrected in Build 5 (March 2004).

Workaround: If you use this alert and would like to continue to use it with Build 4, the workaround is to increase the thresholds for this alert to larger values. The largest allowable value is 160. A threshold value of 160 will alert for accumulation of more than 1.6 inches/hour. As always, pre-coordinate this change with all URC members.
