Channel Service Unit (CSU) Survey
Commercial and Private T1
Purpose of Survey: Obtain the configuration of Channel Service Units (CSUs) for your
RDA/RPG Commercial T1 or Private T1 link. The ROC needs this information to pre-configure and test
software configuration parameters for the RDA gateway to be deployed in the Open RPG (ORPG) system.
The proposed replacement CSU in the ORPG contains a Local Area Network/Wide Area Network (LAN/WAN)
gateway component. This gateway has an integrated T1 CSU for the interface to the RDA link, but the
CSU does not contain hardware switch controls for selection of the site-unique CSU parameters. The
gateway CSU settings are software selectable and will be pre-configured for the site at the time the
ORPG components are kitted by the National Reconditioning Center (NRC).
This FAXBack survey applies to the NWS WSR-88D systems identified in Table 1 below. These sites
have commercial or private T1s for the RDA-RPG link configuration. If your WSR-88D system is
NOT listed in table 1 below, please disregard this survey.

Survey Instructions - Commercial and Private T1 WSR-88D Sites Only
At RDA Site
- Locate the switch labeled SW1 on the front of the TxPort T1 CSU1544
(UD5A18). Figure 1 is provided to show detailed views of the front and rear of
the CSU, plus an enlarged view of SW1. Record the SW1 settings in Table 2 of
this survey.
- Locate the line build out (LBO) selector switch on the rear of the CSU unit
(UD5A18). Figure 1, arrow 13 identifies the LBO switch location. Record the
LBO setting in Table 2 of this survey.
At RPG Site
- Locate the switch labeled SW1 on the front of the TxPort T1 CSU1544
(UD22A4). Figure 1 is provided to show detailed views of the front and rear of
the CSU, plus an enlarged view of SW1. Record the SW1 settings in Table 2 of
this survey.
- Locate the line build out (LBO) selector switch on the rear of the CSU unit
(UD22A4). Figure 1, arrow 13 identifies the LBO switch location. Record the
LBO setting in Table 2 of this survey.
- Fax the completed Table 2 (last page of this survey) to the WSR-88D Hotline.

Microwave Line of Sight (MLOS)

RDA/RPG MLOS link. The ROC needs this information to pre-configure and test software configuration
parameters for the RDA gateway to be deployed in the Open RPG (ORPG) system.

At RDA Site
- If there is a CSU in the RDA shelter, locate the switch labeled SW1 on the front
of the TxPort T1 CSU1544 (UD5A18). Figure 1 is provided to show detailed
views of the front and rear of the CSU, plus an enlarged view of SW1. Record
the SW1 settings in Table 1 of this survey.
- If there is a CSU in the RDA shelter, locate the line build out (LBO) selector
switch on the rear of the CSU unit (UD5A18). Figure 1, arrow 13 identifies the
LBO switch location. Record the LBO setting in Table 1 of this survey.
- If there is a CSU in the MLOS shelter, locate the switch labeled SW1 on the
front of the TxPort T1 CSU1544. Figure 1 is provided to show detailed views
of the front and rear of the CSU, plus an enlarged view of SW1. Record the
SW1 settings in Table 2 of this survey.
- If there is a CSU in the MLOS shelter, locate the line build out (LBO) selector
switch on the rear of the CSU unit. Figure 1, arrow 13 identifies the LBO
switch location. Record the LBO setting in Table 2 of this survey.

- If there is a CSU in the RPG cabinet, locate the switch labeled SW1 on the front
