Pre-Installation Questionnaire for MCI LINCS Telecommunications for the FAA

The FAA Weather and Radar Processor (WARP) and FAA Integrated Terminal Weather System (ITWS) Programs have contracted with MCI LINCS to provide the telecommunications for these systems. In support of the FAA, the ROC needs to confirm whether MCI LINCS equipment already exists at your office. If it does not exist, you need to determine whether you have the necessary space available for the MCI LINCS equipment (see http://www.roc.noaa.gov/examples/index.html for diagrams of the equipment) and can accommodate their equipment utility power requirements.

Your response to this questionnaire will be provided to the FAA and MCI so that they will have as much information about your facility as possible. This should ensure MCI is aware of any limitations they may encounter at your facility, prepare them to have all necessary equipment on-hand when they arrive at your facility, and ultimately minimize the amount of time they will have to spend doing the installation. This will also help us to identify any potential locations where the FAA or MCI may have to perform a pre-site survey before attempting to deliver any equipment.

The MCI LINCS equipment will also require a power source. The installer will mount a 120 Volt quad receptacle on the plywood backboard if an unused quad receptacle does not exist near the vicinity available for MCI LINCS equipment installation. The installer will wire the receptacle to a spare 20 Amp circuit breaker, if available. If not, the installer will provide a 20 Amp circuit breaker, install it, and tag it. The installer will use a #6AWG wire to connect to facility ground or to the safety ground in the power panel. The installer will also provide all needed telecommunications hardware (66 blocks and telecommunications monitoring equipment).

Upon receipt of this document, please respond to the following three items by filling out the attached questionnaire and faxing it back to the ROC.

  1. Does MCI LINCS equipment already exist at your facility? If MCI LINCS is already in place, proceed directly to the response form.
  2. Is space available within 20 feet of the government RPG demarc block? The approximate space requirement is 3' x 3' for a plywood backboard within 20 feet of the government RPG demarc block. (If your telecommunications room is equipped with plywood walls/lining, the backboard can be waived.) The MCI equipment and backboard should be as close as possible to the WSR-88D RPG demarc location.
  3. Is there an unused 120 Volt quad receptacle in the near vicinity? If not, is there a 20 Amp circuit breaker available on your power service panel?

The FAA and MCI have been advised to contact you to pre-coordinate any visits to your site.

For additional information concerning the MCI equipment layout, contact the ROC Engineering Branch or the WSR-88D Hotline.
